What We Do
Land forces instruction for field-grade officers of all uniformed services is conducted under the lead responsibility of the Faculty of Land Forces at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College as assigned by the Chief of the German Army.
For senior army officers, it is not only indispensable to be taught land forces doctrine in a competence-oriented manner but also to be highly proficient in handling national and international command and control processes. As a result, we give absolute priority to action training in the field of land forces instruction. Aside from imparting the principles of the command and control of armed forces, we also train procedures for the command and control, operation and employment of land forces.
Instruction at the Faculty of Land Forces is aimed at preparing the students for assignments within the scope of routine duty and on operations.
In this respect, we focus on imparting general principles that will help our students to perform functions as principal staff assistants in future operations. Including relevant aspects of ongoing missions and operations in our instruction activities is of course necessary, which is why scenarios (vignettes) and seminars are an essential part of our instruction program.
Our Course Program
Elements of land forces instruction are imparted more or less comprehensively in all major courses at the Bundeswehr Command and Staff College.
In the National General/Admiral Staff Officer Course and the International General/Admiral Staff Officer Course, the teaching of land forces instruction by the Faculty of Land Forces comprises 21 weeks and 18 weeks, respectively. We have subdivided the instruction into two training blocks, in which our lecturers train the students in the command and control of land forces at brigade, division and corps/land component command level using a combination of fundamental training, map and staff exercises.
In the Field Officer Basic Course (FOBC), lecturers of the Faculty of Land Forces teach fundamental aspects, always guided by the question: "What does a future Bundeswehr field-grade officer have to know about the Army?" For the army uniformed service, the eight-week course "Fundamentals of Command and Control and Operation Planning for Future Field-Grade Officers in the Army Uniformed Service" is conducted prior to the Field Officer Basic Course.
Last but not least, the Faculty of Land Forces offers a great variety of modules providing all field-grade officers with opportunities to pursue individual advanced training.
